Dear Barlow Families and Community Friends,
The DeWitt D. Barlow Elementary School will soon begin our 87th year of serving the Scholars of this wonderful community! We hope you are enjoying a great and safe summer! With that said, welcome to 2025-26 school year and we’re back with the same LOVE on Thursday, September 4, 2025!
The Barlow Bears are ready to “ROAR” for yet another successful and fabulous year! We know that our Scholars are returning to school with a renewed sense of purpose, energy and ready to do our collective best for our Scholars. For that reason, attendance is very important…Scholars must attend and actively participate EVERYDAY!
Our focus will remain to provide each Scholar with new challenges that will result in a rewarding school experience. Academic emphasis on the core content areas of Literacy, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies will remain a priority as well as providing a learning program that builds on each year to reach Plainfield Public Schools and the NJ Learning Standards. Instruction in the Fine Arts, World Language, Physical Education, and the infusion of technology complete our instructional program providing each Scholar with the opportunity to develop areas of interest and skill.
The goal is to challenge our Scholars intellectually, grow them socially, and guide them toward independent thinking and problem solving. As we strive to promote healthy development in all aspects of each scholar's life, we also strive to develop a student body of good character; Scholars who make good choices and decisions resulting in successful and healthy outcomes.
Here is information to keep in mind, as we start the 2025-26 school year.
School Uniforms:
The DeWitt D. Barlow Elementary will maintain and follow the district’s mandatory uniform policy for the school year of 2025-26. Therefore, our scholars are expected to wear uniforms. The uniforms are khakis pants for boys with dark blue shirts, khakis skirts or slacks for girls with dark blue or yellow blouses.
School Supplies:
To start the new school year, please ensure that your child has the following items, a bookbag, two (2) notebooks, pens/pencils and the option of sanitizing gel or wipes.
Study Stations at Home:
Please provide a quiet area for your child to study in a noise-free space. As you know, our learning and teaching expectations will remain meaningful, engaging, and rigorous!
Kindergarten / New Scholar Orientation:
Barlow Elementary will host an orientation and Q&A session on Tuesday, September 2nd at 6:00 PM to provide our new families an opportunity to ask questions and tour the school. Additional information regarding this meeting will be forthcoming via our contact systems.
Open House / Back to School Night:
Parents will have the opportunity to meet their child’s teachers at our annual Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 5:30 PM. The Back to School Night / Open House is designed for Parents and Staff to meet, review, and share mutual expectations for the school year.
Parent / Teacher Conferences:
Research has shown that a strong line of communication between the school and home will aid Scholars to have a positive educational experience. As a result, our encouragement, support, and concern will ensure that our Scholars know that we value their education. Please save the dates of Tuesday, December 9th, Wednesday, December 10th and Thursday, December 11th.
Again, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the school. Therefore, if a situation should arise that you would need to have a conference with your child’s teacher during the school year, please contact the school’ main office and an appointment will be arranged.
We look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year to provide a productive and safe learning environment that supports Scholar success. ¡La Escuela Primaria Barlow pronto comenzará nuestro 87 año sirviendo a los estudiantes de esta comunidad maravillosa! Esperamos que haya tenido un gran y seguro receso de verano; ¡Con eso dicho, bienvenidos al año escolar 2025-26 y estamos de regreso con el mismo AMOR el jueves, 4 de septiembre!
Los Osos de Barlow están posados y listos para ascender a otro año exitoso y fabuloso. Aunque estos tiempos han sido desafiantes, sabemos que nuestros estudiantes están regresando a la escuela con un renovado sentido de propósito, energía y listos para hacer nuestro colectivo mejor para nuestros estudiantes. Por esa razón, la asistencia escolar es muy importante... ¡los estudiantes deben asistir y participar activamente TODOS LOS DÍAS!
Se centrará en proporcionar a cada niño con nuevos retos que se traducirá en una gratificante experiencia escolar. Énfasis académico en las áreas de contenido del núcleo de alfabetización, matemáticas, ciencias y estudios sociales seguirá siendo una prioridad, así como proporcionar un programa de aprendizaje que se construye en cada año para llegar a las escuelas públicas de Plainfield y los estándares del estado núcleo común. Instrucción en las Bellas Artes, lengua, educación física y la infusión de tecnología completa de nuestro programa de proporcionar a cada estudiante la oportunidad de desarrollar áreas de interés y habilidad.
Nuestro objetivo es desafiar intelectualmente nuestros estudiantes, crecer socialmente y guiarlos hacia el pensamiento independiente y la solución de problemas. Nos gustaría que tenga la siguiente información en mente:
Uniformes escolares:
La Escuela Elemental de DeWitt D. Barlow mantendrá y seguirá el pólice de uniforme obligatorio del distrito para el año escolar 2025-26. Por lo tanto, esperamos que nuestros alumnos usen uniformes. Los uniformes son pantalón caqui con camisa azul oscura para niños: falda o pantalón caqui con blusa azul oscura o amarilla para las niñas.
Suministros Escolares: Para comenzar el nuevo año escolar, asegúrese de que su niño/a lenga los siguientes artículos, una mochila, dos (2) cuadernos, bolígrafos / lápices y la opción de gel desinfectante o toallitas.
Estaciones de estudio en el hogar:
Proporcione un área tranquila para que su hijo(a) estudie en un espacio libre de ruido. ¡Como saben, nuestras expectativas de aprendizaje y enseñanza seguirán siendo significativas, atractivas y rigurosas!
Orientación de Kindergarten y para los nuevos estudiantes:
La Escuela Elemental de Barlow organizara una sesión de orientación y preguntas y respuestas el martes, 2 de septiembre a las 6:00 PM para brindar a nuestras nuevas familias la oportunidad de hacer preguntas y recorrer la escuela. Información adicional sobre esta reunión será disponible a través de nuestros sistemas de contacto.
Casa Abierta / Noche de Regreso a la Escuela:
Los padres tendrán la oportunidad de conocer a los maestros de sus hijos en nuestra Noche Anual de Regreso a la Escuela el miércoles, 24 de septiembre a las 5:30 PM. La Noche de Regreso a la Escuela está diseñada para que los padres y el personal se reúnan, revisen y compartan expectativas mutuas para el ano escolar.
Conferencias de Padres / Maestros:
La investigación educativa ha demostrado que una fuerte línea de comunicación entre la escuela y el hogar ayudara a los estudiantes a tener una experiencia educativa positiva. Como resultado, nuestro aliento, apoyo y preocupación aseguraran que valoramos su educación. ¡Por favor, guarde las fechas del martes, 9, miércoles, 10, y el jueves, 11 de diciembre!
